UPDATE: 3:30 p.m. – The Firebirds have officially announced that head coach John Gruden and assistant coach Dave Karpa have been relieved from their coaching duties, effective immediately.
Sergei Kharin, Flint’s director of hockey operations, will be the Firebirds’ interim head coach, with Petr Jonak continuing to serve as assistant coach.
A separate source has informed MiHockey that today’s practice was run by the players, without participation from Kharin, and that they are still trying to decide on if they want to play in tomorrow’s game against Erie in Flint.
The Flint Firebirds have fired their coaching staff again, per a source close to the situation.
On Nov. 8, the Firebirds fired the entire coaching staff, which made international headlines when the team threatened to quit if the coaches weren’t reinstated.
Now, head coach John Gruden and Dave Karpa have been let go, once again.
In their inaugural season in Flint, the Firebirds are currently 16-31-4-2 – good for ninth place in the Western Conference.
Stay tuned for more…
