After twice being sent to the AHL, Jakub Kindl’s time with the Detroit Red Wings has officially concluded.

The Wings have traded Kindl to the Florida Panthers, according to a report from TSN’s Bob McKenzie and later confirmed by the Red Wings.

Detroit receives a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft in the trade.

The 29-year-old defenseman and first-round pick of the Red Wings in 2005 was sent down to Grand Rapids in January and February, but no teams claimed him off of waivers.

Kindl has been a mainstay with the Wings since the 2010-11 season, having played in a total of 273 NHL games and acquiring 16 goals and 52 assists for 68 total points.

He only played in 35 games last season, however, and has only appeared in 25 this year – totaling 19 points across the two campaigns.

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, the Wings signed Kindl to a four-year contract for $9.6 million. During that 2012-13 lockout-shortened season, Kindl recorded 13 points and a +15 rating in 41 games, and his offseason signing seemed like a good move at the time.

Kindl’s cap hit is $2.4 million this season and next.

UPDATE: MLive’s Ansar Khan is reporting that the Wings retain 15 percent of his salary.
