He stood on his head at The Joe, and in doing so, he’s one of the Big Ten’s stars of the week.

The B1G announced today that Steve Racine is the conference’s second star of the week, after the senior netminder from Williamsville, N.Y., led his Wolverines club to their second straight Great Lakes Invitational title on Dec. 30 at Joe Louis Arena.

“I always like playing at The Joe,” Racine said at the time. “It’s a really cool rink, and I think for me personally I like playing in big rinks in big venues and this was just another one of those.”

Racine stopped 35 shots in Michigan’s 3-2 win over Northern Michigan on Dec. 29, and followed that up with a 27-save outing in the GLI title game – a 4-2 win over Michigan Tech.

He finished with a .939 save percentage and 2.00 goals-against average during the two-day tournament, and earned a spot on the all-tournament team in the process.
