The Red Wings held their annual ‘Military Appreciation Night’ at Joe Louis Arena on Friday night. Detroit honored active military members and veterans through a variety of activities throughout the night, and volunteers from Blue Star Mothers of America Chapter 180 collected car packages and monetary donations as fans arrived. The Wings wore custom camouflage jerseys and socks for warm-ups, and the attire will be auctioned to benefit Help For Our Disabled Troops, a military charity committed to helping disabled veterans who have returned home with serious injuries since Sept. 11, 2001.
Fans had the opportunity to sign a “Support Our Troops” banner that will be sent to a Michigan-based military unit stationed overseas, and a merchandise and memorabilia clearance sale offered reduced prices on autographed items with the proceeds going to Help For Our Disabled Troops.
