The Red Wings officially announced today that Dan Cleary has been assigned to Grand Rapids.
Cleary, 35, was placed on waivers yesterday, and since he cleared, he has been assigned to the Wings’ AHL affiliate.
The longtime Red Wings forward, signed to a $950,000 contract this offseason, will not affect the Red Wings’ salary-cap situation after the waiver move. The question now, of course, is if he will retire or actually report to Grand Rapids.
The Griffins begin AHL play tomorrow night in California, taking on the Bakersfield Condors.
Meanwhile, defenseman Xavier Ouellet joins Cleary on the list of players sent to Grand Rapids. Jakub Kindl and Alexey Marchenko have returned to the active roster, as both were removed from the injured-reserve list today.
