The Red Wings announced today that Pavel Datsyuk underwent ankle surgery in Charlotte, N.C., today.
Datsyuk, 36, missed a significant portion of the 2014-15 regular season with a ‘lower-body injury’ sustained during a game with the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 15.

Per the Red Wings’ Bill Roose, the surgery was to repair ruptured tendons from a blocked shot.
While it seems like there is plenty of time between now and training camp, September is roughly two months away.
During the lockout shortened season of 2012-13, Datsyuk played in 47 of the Red Wings’ 48 games. However, 2009-10 was the last time in which he played in a majority of the Wings’ contests – dressing for 80 of the 82 games – as Datsyuk hasn’t played in more than 70 games in a season since.
