Teemu Pulkkinen briefly lost the AHL scoring lead while he was on duty in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings, but it didn’t take long for him to climb back on top.
Pulkkinen recorded a hat trick for the Grand Rapids Griffins Wednesday night in a huge 7-1 victory over the Oklahoma City Barons. The goals were his league-leading 31st, 32nd and 33rd to up his point total to 60, also best in the AHL.
Netminder Petr Mrazek was also spectacular, turning aside 34 of 35 for his eighth-straight win for the Griffins, dating back to Nov. 12 prior to his stint with the Red Wings. Mrazek is 9-2 on the season with a sparkling 1.98 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.
Detroit 2014 first-round pick Anthony Mantha potted a goal and an assist, one of five Griffins with multi-point outings – including Michigan natives Andy Miele and Kevin Porter.
