He factored into five of the six goals his team scored this weekend, which made the Big Ten hockey offices selecting Troy native Mackenzie MacEachern as their first star of the week an easy choice.

The Michigan State forward recorded four goals and one assist this past weekend, as he helped his Spartans club pick up a weekend sweep over a nationally-ranked Penn State opponent.

MacEachern scored the Spartans’ first goal and added an assist on their last in a 3-2 Friday night win at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing. The sophomore forward, a product of Brother Rice High School, then followed it up with a hat trick in a 3-0 win Saturday.

On the season, the St. Louis Blues draft pick has 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 26 games – one point behind team leader Matt Berry.
