The LSSU national championship-winning team is taking on a ’70 Cornell team in today’s voting battle of the Frozen Four’s Finest.
NCAA.com has created a 16-team bracket to decide who the best NCAA hockey team is, and each day, they’re asking fans to vote for their favorite. Today, the Lakers are on the clock.
From the NCAA’s official website:
The 1993-94 Lakers defeated Boston U. 9-1 in the championship game, but winning the title was anything but easy.
In each of the first three rounds, Lake Superior State needed overtime to advance, still the only team in NCAA history to win three OT games in the same tournament.
Head coach Jeff Jackson’s squad finished 31-10-4 in the CCHA, and the Lakers finished 14-1-2 in its last 17 games.
Sean Tallaire led the squad in scoring with 55 points on 23 goals and 32 assists. He also was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, scoring two goals and an assist in the championship game.
He was joined on the all-tournament team by goalie Blaine Lacher, defensemen Keith Aldridge and Steven Barnes and forward Clayton Beddoes.
