The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that Trenton native Tony Calderone has committed to the University of Michigan.

Calderone, the first overall pick in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft, currently has 24 points in 36 games with the Stampede this season. The Victory Honda product led the Tier 1 Elite League in scoring prior to be drafted, recording 65 points for the VH Midget Major squad.

When he was selected by the Stampede, director of player personnel Craig Sarner had this to say on the future Wolverine:

“Tony is a very talented player. He is a natural goal scorer who finds the back of the net when given the opportunity. He is a leader and someone who we feel can come in and contribute right away.”

Eight other current USHL players are also committed to Red Berenson and the Wolverines; Alex Talcott (Indiana Ice), Cooper Marody (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Hayden Lavigne (Tri-City Storm), Cutler Martin (Tri-City Storm), Nick Boka (Team USA), Dylan Larkin (Team USA), Brendan Warren (Team USA), and Kyle Connor (Youngstown Phantoms).
