Wolverines stomp Niagara
The University of Michigan only played one contest this weekend, but they made sure to make it count. The Wolverines routed Niagara University, posting a 6-0 win in Zach Nagelvoort’s first NCAA shutout performance. Alex Guptill and Andrew Copp both scored a pair of goals, while Tyler Motte recorded a goal and two assists on the night.

The Wolverines improved to 8-2-1 on the season; they are now ranked No. 3 in the USCHO college hockey poll.
Broncos sweep Spartans
Western Michigan and Michigan State took part in a home-and-home weekend series, and the Broncos picked up a pair of wins over their former CCHA rivals in the process.
On Friday, the Broncos shut out the Spartans, recording a 2-0 win in East Lansing. Nolan LaPorte and Justin Kovacs scored for the Broncos, while Lucas Hafner stopped 22 shots in the win.
On Saturday, it was more of the same for WMU. Kovacs recorded his second goal of the weekend, while Kenney Morrison, Chris Dienes and Shane Berschbach also scored in a 4-1 win. Frank Slubowski stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced, allowing only a late goal to Mackenzie MacEachern.

Western Michigan is now 5-5-2 on the season, while Michigan State is 3-7-0.
Bulldogs sweep Alaska
The Ferris State Bulldogs welcomed the Alaska Nanooks to Big Rapids, and swept their CCHA-turned-WCHA foe.
On Friday, Ferris State picked up a 5-3 win over the visitors on goals from Dominic Panetta, Matt Robertson, Jason Binkley, Chad McDonald and Kenny Babinski. Goaltender C.J. Motte, who picked up an assist on the last Bulldogs’ goal, stopped 41 shots in the win.
The next night, the Bulldogs needed a third-period tally from Garrett Thompson to pick up a second win. Thompson broke a 3-3 tie at the 13:02 mark of the final frame, with help from Kyle Schempp. Robertson, Justin Buzzeo and Cory Kane scored first-period goals for the Bulldogs. Motte stopped 28 shots to improve to 10-0-1 on the season.
Ferris State is now 10-2-1 on the season, and they check in at No. 6 in this week’s USCHO college hockey poll.
Lake State splits at Bemidji State
The Lake Superior State Lakers traveled to Bemidji State this weekend, and they returned home with a win and an overtime loss.
On Friday, the Lakers took down the Beavers by a score of 3-2. Third-period goals from Alex Globke and Colin Campbell erased a Bemidji lead to give LSSU the win.
Globke also had a goal in the first period; he now has seven on the season. Kevin Kapalka stopped 30 shots between the pipes for the Lakers.
Saturday was a different story, however. Despite a second-period goal from Kevin Czuczman, the Lakers couldn’t muster any more offense, and ended falling in overtime. Kapalka tended to the Lakers’ crease once again, and stopped 28 shots.
Lake Superior is now 7-4-1 on the season, and they are ranked No. 16 in the USCHO college hockey poll.
Michigan Tech returns from Anchorage with a loss, tie
Michigan Tech made the trip to Anchorage, Alaska this weekend, and they didn’t enjoy their stay very much.
On Friday, Tech lost 3-1. Tanner Kero had the lone Huskies goal, while Jamie Phillips stopped 17 of the 20 shots he faced.
The next night was a bit better for the Huskies, however. MTU recorded a 2-2 tie with Anchorage, on goals from Ryan Furne and Kero. Pheonix Copley tended to the pipes for the Huskies, and stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced.
Michigan Tech is now 4-8-2 on the season.
Wildcats sweep Alabama Huntsville
Northern Michigan welcomed conference foe Alabama Huntsville to Marquette this weekend, and they treated their guests to a pair of shutouts.
On Friday, the Wildcats blanked the Chargers 3-0, with Dominik Shine, Reed Seckel and Sami Salminen recording goals for NMU. Mathias Dahlstrom recorded the shutout after stopping 16 shots.
Saturday was more of the same, as the Wildcats posted a 4-0 win. This time, CJ Ludwig, Wade Epp, Ryan Daugherty and Seckel did the scoring, while Dahlstrom recorded another shutout after facing 17 shots.
Northern Michigan is now 6-5-1 on the season.
