Welcome to another season of MiHockey’s Michi-gamer!
We take great pride in our homegrown talent. Whether they grew up in the Mitten or we welcomed them here for college or juniors, they are our own. They represent the best place in the world for hockey.
Every day, we’ll keep an eye on those players, and every morning, we will pick one Michi-gamer of the night – one Michigan player who stood out above the rest.
NOVEMBER 12 – REID BOUCHER
The Albany Devils hosted the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in an afternoon AHL contest yesterday, and the early start time didn’t bother Reid Boucher. The Grand Ledge native recorded a goal and an assist in the Devils’ 5-2 win over the Tigers, while leading his team in shots with five. His goal – the final nail in the coffin in the third period – was a snipe from the slot off a loose puck. Boucher, who played for the U.S. NTDP before playing for the Sarnia Sting in the OHL, broke Steven Stamkos’ goal record with his junior club before making the jump to the professional ranks. In his first full season in the AHL, he already has five goals and six assists, good for 11 points in 14 games. Playing at almost a point-per-game pace? Not a bad start for the 20-year-old forward.

NOVEMBER 11 – MIKE CAMMALLERI
The Calgary Flames couldn’t pick up two points Friday night, but it wasn’t Mike Cammalleri’s fault. The former University of Michigan star scored twice for his squad, in an attempt to pull the Flames out of a two-goal hole. At the 6:07 mark of the second period, Cammalleri buried a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle. Then, two and a half minutes later, Cammalleri buried another one-timer, this time to the left of the slot. The problem for the Flames was that the Avalanche had scored in between Cammalleri’s strikes, which meant that they were still trailing at the end of the night. Cammalleri, who has played in 10 of 17 Calgary games this year, now has seven goals and three assists on the season.
