Shaved Ice – April 4

Trade Deadline Day has come and gone…

Well, just like our article from Tuesday indicated, the Wings didn’t do too much at the trade deadline. The only real news out of Hockeytown was that they officially signed Northern Michigan goaltender Jared Coreau – something that was expected to happen over a week ago. The Wings also recalled Brian Lashoff from Grand Rapids.

Top defensive prospect Ryan Sproul has joined the Grand Rapids Griffins, after his OHL season with Soo Greyhounds concluded.

The Wings take on the Coyotes tonight out in Phoenix.

The USA Hockey National Championships have started at the youth level – here’s a look at how our Michigan teams are doing so far:

Boys teams

  • Honeybaked Bantam Major picked up a 6-0 win over Matthew Barnaby’s Buffalo team.
  • Honeybaked Midget Minor recorded a 9-0 win over the Rochester Stars.
  • Honeybaked Midget Major beat the Buffalo Regals 5-3.
  • The Allen Park Huskies (14U 3A bracket) beat the Houston Wild 4-0.

Earlier this week we shared Part 1 of the latest “Between the Benches” videos of the Grand Rapids Griffins. Here’s Parts 2 and 3.

The biggest trade yesterday featured the Columbus Blue Jackets – they unloaded a significant portion of their roster to get Marian Gaborik from the New York Rangers.

Here’s a statistical breakdown of all the major trades over the past week or so from TSN.

You can also get caught up by checking out the NHL Trade Tracker – the league’s site offers a simple way to see who went where.

Former Whalers goaltender Matt Hackett was involved in the deal that sent Jason Pominville to Minnesota.

The other new NHL ad for the playoffs – that first kiss every player dreams about.

More to come, see you later on.
