Shaved Ice – March 18

What a weekend.

The Michigan Wolverines are the only Michigan D-1 school left standing (hockey-wise, of course). UM will head to Joe Louis Arena to take part in the final CCHA Championship weekend, and they will take on top-seeded Miami in the semifinals.

Here are the game times:

Saturday’s semifinals
1:05 p.m. – No. 3 Ohio State vs. No. 2 Notre Dame (Fox Sports Detroit PLUS)
4:35 p.m. – No. 4 Michigan vs. No. 1 Miami (Fox Sports Detroit PLUS)

Sunday’s final
2:05 p.m. Semifinal Winner No. 1 vs. Semifinal Winner No. 2 (Fox Sports Detroit)

The Spartans were eliminated from the CCHA playoffs by Miami Sunday night, as they lost Game 3 by a score of 4-1. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were also eliminated, as they lost their Game 3 with the Buckeyes 3-2.

In other news…

The Red Wings picked up Friday and Saturday night wins. Justin Abdelkader had a pair of goals in the second game, making him our Michi-gamer of the weekend.

The Whalers concluded regular-season play, and will take on the Sarnia Sting in the first round of the OHL playoffs. That best-of-seven series begins on Friday at Compuware Arena. The Spirit will take on the top-seeded London Knights.

Congrats to Brian Bachnak, who was named Mr. Hockey by the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches’ Association yesterday. Click here to read more about that, and to see the ‘Dream Team’ list.

Compuware Midget Minor defenseman Sean Day has been the talk of the OHL circles of late – whether he will be the latest player granted exceptional status to enter the league early. However, the team with the No. 1 pick, the Ottawa 67s, say they might not even pick Day first overall if he’s cleared.

Let’s take another look at that last Red Wings win, shall we?
