The Modown in Motown: MiHockey and the CCHA square off in a Movember battle

With both teams in the home stretch of their Movember battle, here’s an update on how the growth (or lack thereof) of their moustaches is progressing.

This November, MiHockey and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association are having a battle for the best ‘stache.

The CCHA staff is joining the MiHockey staff to take part in a Movember charity fundraiser – with a free lunch on the line, as well.

Meltdown, radio personality on 101 WRIF and friend of both sides, will decide which staff assembles the best group of moustaches during Movember, and the ‘winning’ group will be treated to lunch by the group with less impressive facial hair.

More important than the free lunch, however, is that both sides win in this Modown in Motown – it’s all to raise money for charity. The two sides have formed a team on Movember.com, where fans can make donations to support the team and help fund the Movember Foundation, which works in conjunction with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

Last year over 855,000 people participated in Movember world-wide, and raised $126.3 million. In 2011, more than 145,000 Americans grew and supported the mustache fundraising efforts, and they raised over $15 million for the cause. In the U.S., funds raised are directed to programs run by Movember and its men’s health partners, Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and the LIVESTRONG Foundation, to support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
