Welcome to a Friday edition of Shaved Ice.
We were at Yost last night (will be back there again tonight, too) for Round 1 of Wolverines vs. Irish. Notre Dame got the win, thanks to Novi native Bryan Rust’s game-winner. Check out what he had to say about taking down his brother’s alma mater. He’s also our Michi-gamer after the big goal.
Tonight is the rededication ceremony for Yost Ice Arena, and there’s a bunch of alums expected to be in attendance. Should be a great atmosphere as the Wolverines try to even the series.
We’ll be keeping an eye on all the college hockey series that begin tonight, as well. Here’s what we’re focusing on:
- Ferris State is at Bowling Green
- Northern Michigan is at Ohio State
- Alabama-Huntsville is at Lake Superior
- Michigan State is at Miami
- Western Michigan is at Alaska
- Michigan Tech is at Bemidji State
Meanwhile, the Griffins are taking on the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
The Plymouth Whalers will try to rebound from a shootout loss to the Saginaw Spirit with road games at Belleville and Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday. Saginaw, meanwhile, has a home game against Brampton tomorrow night.
In other news, Michigan native Kevin Miller (one of the many Millers to play in the NHL) is being sued by an insurance company for a hit he delivered during a 2000 Swiss League game. They’re looking to get $1.6 million out of Miller, which, in this writer’s opinion, is ridiculous.
And, in some happier news (kind of), Ian White voices what a whole lotta people are currently thinking – that Gary Bettman is an idiot.
Here’s highlights from last night’s game at Yost.
Bettman has requested a break from labor talks. You know, during dating relationships, breaks normally mean that it’s not going to work out. To both the NHL and the NHLPA – this has to work out. Somehow. FIX IT.
Evander Kane has experienced enough of Russia – he’s coming back home.
The ISS released their draft rankings – see them right here. Spoiler; Nathan MacKinnon took the top spot.
Red Wings TV sat down with Martin Frk. Listen to what last summer’s top pick for DRW had to say.
Don’t worry, we’ll be here all weekend.
