On Friday, all seven NCAA D-I teams in our state were playing. There were big games across the state, and none were bigger than Michigan Tech taking down No. 1 Minnesota. Here’s our Friday college hockey summary, with a video of Tech coach Mel Pearson talking about the Huskies’ upset.
Michigan posted a convincing 6-3 win over Bentley in their only game of the weekend, and A.J. Treais played a big part in the victory.
Meanwhile, Michigan State needed third-period comebacks in both their games against Niagara; the Spartans won on Friday, and tied (then won in an unofficial shootout) on Saturday.
Congrats to Jeff Blashill, who picked up his first win as bench boss of the Griffins yesterday. Grand Rapids topped Toronto in a shootout on the road.

Alex Ovechkin says that the NHL’s proposal last week was just a work of deception. The Russian superstar was quoted on TSN as saying that the league didn’t actually offer up anything new in the proposal that got fans across the globe excited and thinking hockey would return soon.
One of the few good things that have come out of the lockout is that NHL players have been able to visit youth hockey teams in their area on surprise visits. I’m not saying that the visits are worth the kids not being able to watch hockey on TV, but…
Inside College Hockey has announced that they will be shutting down their site. Never good to see a college hockey publication close up shop.
Scott Burnside says the NHL has to save their legacy this week, or they will permanently damage the game’s reputation.
Michigan Tech’s big win over Minnesota was jump-started by this impressive goal by freshman Alex Petan. It cracked the Sportscenter Top 10, by the way.
