On Dec. 15, three organizations from Kalamazoo will join forces and gear up to play hockey to increase autism awareness in the community, and raise money for a brand new Great Lakes Center for Autism Treatment and Research.

Five Michigan natives made the Under-18 National Team Development Program roster in Ann Arbor today. Defenseman Trevor Hamilton (Grosse Pointe Farms) and forwards Evan Allen (Sterling Heights), Dawson Cook (Cadillac), Michael McCarron (Macomb), and Tyler Motte (St. Clair) will all move from the Under-17 team up to the Under-18 team for the 2012-13 season.

Outside the Mitten

There remains to be a wide gap between what the National Hockey League’s owners want from the economic system that will govern the new Collective Bargaining Agreement and what the National Hockey League Players’ Association offered Tuesday in its economic proposal, according to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

The Philadelphia Flyers and forward Wayne Simmonds have agreed to a multi-year contract extension.  Terms of the deal were not released, but TSN reported the contract is a six-year extension with an annual average value of about $4 million.
