Happy Monday, everyone. Hope you enjoyed yet another hockey-filled weekend.
Quick hits
Ferris State University will be Michigan’s representative in the Frozen Four in Tampa Bay. The Bulldogs were the lone team out of four Mitten squads to advance past the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully the CCHA regular-season champs can continue their stellar season. They will be taking on Union on April 5 in Tampa.
Here’s a look at how the other three teams fared this weekend.
- The Wolverines lost in a heartbreaker after coming back to force overtime.
- The Spartans were haunted by a no-goal call as they lost by one to Union.
- The Broncos couldn’t top a talented North Dakota squad.
And in other college hockey news, Spartans captain Torey Krug announced yesterday that he has signed with the Boston Bruins. Here’s our article from the press conference. We’ll have plenty more on the Livonia native’s big decision, too.
Oh yes, and Tomas Holmstrom has been nominated for the Masterton Trophy. About time the guy got recognized for the beatings he takes in front of the opposition’s net night after night.
Highlight reel
I couldn’t embed the video of Ferris State clinching their spot in the Frozen Four, but here’s a link to it.
Instead, here’s highlights from the big Red Wings win on Saturday, where Drew Miller scored the winner.
Outside the Mitten
Ryan Miller continues to impress as he leads the Buffalo Sabres back into playoff contention. He’s our Michi-gamer for the weekend.
