Hello, everyone. It’s almost the end of February (leap year) and that means we’re getting closer to playoff time. Staffer Brian Kalisher here for your mid-day hockey talk.
Quick hits
Well, the trade deadline came and went with minimal activity. In fact, it might have been the most uninteresting deadline in recent history. The Wings stood pat for the most part, besides dealing Mike Commodore to the Lighting for a conditional draft pick. Brendan Smith was also recalled from Grand Rapids.
The Red Wings hit the ice tonight for a match with Columbus and newly acquired former Michigan star Jack Johnson. After losing two games at home, the Wings look to pick up a road win to add to their 85 points.

Listen to Wings’ GM Ken Holland discuss trade deadline day.
Outside the Mitten
One team that was active yesterday was Nashville – picking up Paul Gaustad from Buffalo and Andrei Kostitsyn from Montreal.
Detroit native, former Plymouth Whalers standout and longtime Predator David Legwand chipped in with two assists in their 2-1 win over the Kings, making him our Michi-gamer of the night.
After much speculation that Rick Nash would be dealt by Columbus at yesterday’s deadline, the forward remains with the team today – even after it was made public that he’s asked for a trade. Looks like Nash will try his luck this summer during the off-season.
