Good morning, everyone.
Quick hits
No Michigan-based teams played last night, so we might as well lead this one off with a Michigan-born player who accomplished a tremendous feat. Last night, Mike Knuble, just a few years removed from lettering for East Kentwood High School out in Grand Rapids, played in his 1,000th NHL game. The former Red Wing has been with the Washington Capitals for nearly three seasons now, after stints with Rangers, Bruins, and Flyers as well. However, if you ask anyone around here, Knuble will always be a Michigan high-school star, a Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wing, a Michigan Wolverine, and a Red Wing. He is the first U of M product to reach the 1,000-game plateau. Congrats, Mike. And his name will forever be engraved on the Stanley Cup after the Wings won in 1997. Here’s a great read about his career from the Capitals’ official site.

After a two-goal night, Trenton’s Erik Condra tops our ‘Michi-gamer’ list once again.
The US World Junior squad dropped their first exhibition game last night, losing to Russia 6-3. There shouldn’t be any cause for concern, however – the US team is still working on a final roster. This was more of a tryout for a few players than anything else.
