So if you stayed up for the whole Red Wings game, and you’re reading this right when it’s posted, I applaud your effort.
Quick hits
The Wings started their western road trip last night, taking on the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. Local product Drew Miller deflected a point shot from Niklas Kronwall with under five minutes to go in regulation to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Wings to a road win. Detroit is now 8-8 away from Joe Louis Arena this season.
The goal also means that Miller is our Michi-gamer of the night. After posting a two-goal night on Saturday, he was topped by Tim Thomas’ shutout on the same night. This time, it’s all Miller.
Here’s a look at the latest USA Today college hockey poll – Western Michigan checks in at No. 8, Ferris State at No. 11, and Michigan State at No. 14.

Outside the Mitten
Teams in the Eastern Conference are still waiting for that ‘Stanley Cup hangover’ to hit the Bruins, because as of right now, they’re still the best team in hockey. Last night they topped the Canadiens 3-2 (33 saves for our guy Tim Thomas), improving their record to 19-2-1 over their last 22 games. Boston is a remarkable 19-0-0 when they score three or more goals.
Construction of the Winter Classic rink has started, and you can watch a live feed of it at NHL.com.

News coming out of Canada – the Quebec government is mad at the Canadiens because their new coach, Randy Cunneyworth, doesn’t know French.

All I can really say is that there will be more hockey tomorrow. That’s good, right?
