Happy Monday, everybody.
Quick hits
The Red Wings had one game this weekend, but the amount of goals they scored probably could have won them at least two games. They lit up both of the Kings’ goaltenders Saturday night, posting a 8-2 win over a team still searching for a new coach. Former Spartan Drew Miller and rookie Cory Emmerton both had a pair of goals in the big win. Here’s our recap from the Joe.
It was a strange weekend for our office – there wasn’t much college hockey to watch. Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech played in the lone game of the weekend for Michigan’s D-1 schools. The Wildcats topped their Upper Peninsula rivals 4-1. Senior forward Tyler Gron led the way with two goals and an assist for Northern Michigan, who is 7-1-3 at home this season.
The state’s two OHL teams are now heading into their Christmas break. Plymouth posted a 5-0 win over Oshawa on Friday, but lost 5-1 to Belleville on Saturday. The Whalers lead the West Division of the OHL’s Western Conference with a 22-9-2-1 record at the break. Meanwhile, the Spirit won their only game of the weekend, posting a 5-4 win against Windsor. Saginaw is now 14-18-0-2 on the season.

Here’s a look at all eight of the Red Wings’ goals from Saturday.
Outside the Mitten
While Miller had a great game for the Wings, he was topped by Tim Thomas for our ‘Michi-gamer’ of the weekend. The Davison native and goaltender for the Bruins had 31 saves for his fourth shutout of the season on Saturday, guiding Boston to a 6-0 win over Philadelphia.
And yet another NHL bench boss was fired. The Canadiens showed Jacques Martin to the door on Saturday. Don’t ask me how many coaches that is to get fired this season, I’ve lost count.
