Shaved Ice – Nov. 7

I survived another wild weekend of hockey in Michigan. Did you?

Quick hits

The Wings finally won a game. I know, it must feel good to read that sentence. It felt good writing it. Here’s my recap from Saturday’s big 5-0 win over Anaheim.

Couldn’t keep up with all the college hockey this weekend? Take a look at how all the Michigan-based collegiate programs did (Michigan State had a bye week).

In the world of Juniors, the Whalers prevailed over the Spirit 2-0 Sunday afternoon. Here’s more on that one.

Some of the top youth teams in Michigan were in Chicago this weekend, competing in the Bauer International Invite. Check out the tournament’s official website to see how they did.

Highlight reel

I disappointed one of my good friends in the sports PR world this weekend for my inability to recognize a Wayne’s World quote via text message, so I’ve been stepping my game up in that regard. You miss one quote out of a hundred, and it eats away at you for days.

Outside the Mitten

The big news around the hockey world right now is the coaching change that was made last night. The Blues fired coach Davis Payne and brought in longtime coach Ken Hitchcock to replace him. St. Louis is 6-7-0 on the season. Perhaps the most surprising part of the news was that Hitchcock was still under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who seemed like the most likely team to make a coaching change – the Jackets’ 2-11-1 record this year is the worst in NHL by far.
