Welcome back to the work week. Hope everybody had a great weekend.
Quick hits
Our new favorite Fox Sports Detroit analyst, Darren Eliot, got plenty of extra face-time during the Red Wings game last night due to a power outage at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Wings and Ducks were delayed roughly half an hour, but it didn’t derail the visitors – the Wings posted a 4-2 win.
MiHockeyNow was at Yost all weekend, and things didn’t go well for the Wolverines. On Friday, I covered the 2-1 loss to the Buckeyes, and our newest writer, Lindsey Ungar, showed up just in time to see OSU complete their first weekend sweep of Michigan in Ann Arbor since 1986.
The Spartans were up in Marquette this weekend, and managed a split with the Wildcats. Lee Reimer led the Spartans to a Friday night win with a goal and two assists. On Saturday, Northern Michigan evened the series, with a close-fought 2-1 home win.
Ferris State took the long, long trek up to Alaska this weekend, and left with a series split. The Bulldogs beat the Nanooks 3-2 on Saturday to even the weekend match-up.
High school hockey officially kicked off last week, as well. MiHockeyNow’s Brian Kalisher was at both days of the Metro High School Invitational at Novi Ice Arena to cover a few games, read his Friday and Saturday recaps. More coverage from the event is coming shortly.
Highlight reel
Here’s the highlights of the Red Wings game last night…
Outside the Mitten
The big news around the hockey world is long-awaited return of Sidney Crosby. The Penguins’ star has missed ten months of hockey due to a concussion, but will play tonight when Pittsburgh travels to New York for a game with the Islanders. Love him or hate him (and there really seems to be no in between in these parts of the hockey community), it’s good to see him back.
