FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that forward Phil Di Giuseppe of Michigan has been named the Gongshow Rookie of the Month for October.
Di Giuseppe helped Michigan to a 6-1-1 record for the month of October and racked up five goals and four assists in eight games. Two of his tallies came on the power play and one was a game-winning goal. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward’s nine points ties him for third on the Wolverines and his +9 rating is tied for the team lead among forwards. His 5-4-9 scoring line places him on top of CCHA freshmen goal and point scoring, with his two power-play tallies also a league best among rookies. His five goals ties him for second place nationally and his nine points place him in a tie for third among all college rookies.
The Maple, Ontario native recorded an assist in just his second game as a Wolverine. He scored his first collegiate goal the next night in a 4-1 win over Bentley and finished the night with two goals in the contest and the game winner. He followed that up with a goal and an assist in his next game against St. Lawrence. The former forward of the Villanova Knights (OJHL) closed out the month with a four-point weekend against Ferris State, where he notched two goals in the first contest and had two assists the following night. Di Giuseppe posted points in five-of-eight games in October, four of which were multiple-point outings.

Motte, Lake Superior forward Chris Ciotti, Miami forward Austin Czarnik, Notre Dame forward Austin Wuthrich, Ohio State forward Ryan Dzingel and Western Michigan goaltender Frank Slubowski.
