It was a big weekend for the Michigan State Spartans. Here’s a look at how all the top Michigan-based college programs fared over the last two nights.

Michigan State at Western Michigan

The Spartans headed into Kalamazoo and picked up their two biggest wins of the new Tom Anastos era. Sophomore goaltender Will Yanakeff posted a career-high 38 saves Friday night to lead MSU to a 3-2 win over the No. 5/6 Broncos. The Spartans went with the hot hand the next night, and Yanakeff once again held WMU to two goals and helped his team complete the sweep on the road with a 4-2 win.

Michigan at Miami

In their third straight weekend of top competition, the Wolverines struggled with the Miami RedHawks. On Friday, Michigan fell behind 2-0, but nearly tied the game in a late rally – eventually losing 2-1. The Wolverines let a 2-0 lead disappear on Saturday, but they did earn a point in a shootout loss.

Lake Superior State at Ferris State

The Bulldogs hosted the Lakers in a battle of two top-ranked teams over the weekend. Ferris State posted a big 5-1 win on Friday night, led by a 32-save performance by Taylor Nelson. The next night, the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation, only for the Lakers to win in a shootout to earn the extra boost in the standings.

Northern Michigan at Ohio State

The Wildcats traveled to Columbus this weekend, and had a tough time dealing with the Buckeyes. Northern Michigan lost to Ohio State 4-1 on both nights.
