Shaved Ice – Oct. 26

Quick hits

Sorry I didn’t pound away on my keyboard yesterday. I shaved with a regular razor, not a hockey skate, because I had a whole lot of important meetings to attend to.

  • The Wings came out flat in Columbus last night, falling to their division rivals 4-1. Ty Conklin was in net for the Wings to allow Jimmy Howard to stay home with his new baby boy – James Howard IV. It’s been a rough start for Conklin – he’s given up 10 goals in two games.
  • After posting ten points in three games, Saginaw Spirit forward and Blackhawks prospect Brandon Saad was named both OHL and CHL Player of the Week.
  • Sad news out of East Lansing – the Spartans announced that junior forward Zach Golembiewski has decided to end his collegiate hockey career after consulting with his doctor. The MSU student-athlete injured his back over the summer, and could face serious health issues if he continued to play a contact sport.

Highlight reel

You gotta admit, this video is awesome.

Outside the Mitten

David Booth played for over 15 minutes with his new team – the Vancouver Canucks – but didn’t register any points. The Canucks lost to Edmonton 3-2. Other NHL scores:

  • Pittsburgh 3, N.Y. Islanders 0
  • Ottawa 3, Carolina 2 (SO)
  • Tampa Bay 4, Buffalo 3
  • San Jose 3, Nashville 1
  • Chicago 3, Anaheim 2 (SO)
  • New Jersey 3, Los Angeles 0
