Quick hits
Take a look at our Friday night recaps here, then we’ll get you caught up for the rest of the weekend.
Saturday/Sunday notes:
- The Wings finally lost one. It wasn’t enjoyable, either (though what losses are, I guess). Mike Green led the Capitals’ in a 7-1 win with two goals and two assists.
- The Griffins picked up a 3-2 shootout win over the Barons on Saturday, only to fall to the Aeros 3-1 on Sunday. The Wings’ AHL affiliate is now 3-4-0 on the year.
- A.J. Treais scored the lone goal in a shootout to give the Wolverines a split with Northern Michigan over the weekend.
- The Broncos also saw their Saturday night tilt go to a shootout, where they prevailed over Alaska once again.
- The Ferris State Bulldogs can expect to rise in the national polls after completing the sweep of No. 10 Miami this weekend.
- Lake Superior won Game 2 of their series with Bowling Green to split the weekend.
- Michigan Tech dropped both their games against Bemidji State this weekend.
- The Whalers posted eight goals in Mississauga for a convincing 8-4 win over the Majors Sunday night.
- The Spirit swept their weekend games, scoring 16 goals in two games.
Highlight reel
Here’s the video highlights from the Wolverines’ Saturday night win over Northern.
Outside the Mitten:
- Former Spartan and Michigan native David Booth will be living even farther away from the Mitten now. The skilled forward was traded from the Panthers to the Western Conference champs in Vancouver over the weekend. Here’s to hoping Booth thrives in his new home – a little bit more of a hockey hotbed.
- Andy Miele, last year’s Hobey Baker winner, made his NHL debut for the Phoenix Coyotes last night. The Grosse Pointe Woods native only had one shot on goal (and a penalty), but they are expecting big things for him out in the desert.
