It’s hard to fathom just how solid Cam Johnson was in the month of December.

The sophomore netminder for North Dakota started in all four games and allowed just one goal in 240 minutes of hockey, posting three shutouts, a 0.25 goals-against average and .992 save percentage en route to a 4-0-0 record. Both weekends he played saw him take home league goaltender of the week honors. That was more than enough to earn him the NCHC player of the month nod.

Johnson, a Troy native, allowed one goal on 23 shots in a 5-1 win over then No. 9 Denver on Dec. 4, the last goal he would allow in the month. He then earned his first career shutout the following night, a 4-0 decision over Denver. In the final two games, a back-to-back set with then No. 17 Minnesota-Duluth, Johnson stopped a total of 78 saves on the weekend, including 40 in the first game to set a career high.

Johnson has compiled an impressive 9-0-1 record on the season with a 1.16 GAA, .952 save percentage and four shutouts, helping lift North Dakota to the top ranks in the country.

UPDATE: For his efforts, Johnson was also named player of the month Wednesday afternoon by the Hockey Commissioners’ Association (HCA) for the month of December.
